Pearls that make you smile
Here's some information and pictures of pearls. What I have here are some cultured akoya pearls, now what that means is that they given a little grain of sand or somthng similar. The oyster (mollusk) produces a protective coating called nacre. Nacre is made up of microscopic crystals of calcium carbonate that also lines the inside of the oysters shell. The nacre is what starts forming around the grain of sand that makes the pearl. The pearl takes about 6 months to grow and that is what determines the size, the longer its waitng the larger it gets. There are times where the oysters can make twins or even triplets!! The colors fluctuate and varies in shades; for example the black pearl. The black pearl can be a soild dark black or it can be an oil slick black meaning that it will have a shade of purple, green and or blue (just like an oil that sometimes comes out of your car/truck) and just an overall different shade.
